Vermont Unemployment Insurance

Extended Benefit Periods

Given when we shut down in mid-March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many of you may be reaching the end of the standard 26 weeks of unemployment insurance for the State of Vermont. The information below reviews the opportunities for an extended unemployment period. Please note, as legislation and programs change, this information could also change. This is the best interpretation of the details as we have available to date as of September 23rd, 2020.

Looking up from another angle.

When you first opened your claim, you were likely granted up to 26 weeks of unemployment and an annual benefit amount. Once you reach the annual benefit amount, or 26 weeks of total claims, you will then move into PEUC benefit extension through the CARES Act. PEUC grants you an additional 13 weeks of benefits (the amount of which should be the same as your regular UI benefit). This transition will occur automatically from the DOL and you should continue to file your weekly claims as normal.

If you are still unemployed at the end of the additional 13 week PEUC period, your claim will then transition to the Federal Extended Benefit program, or EB. The EB program will grant you yet another 20 weeks at the same weekly benefit as you have been receiving. Again, this transition is expected to be automatic and you should file your claims as normal.

We did receive word that the Lost Wages payments that were available to eligible individuals were processed last week, and those who completed the questionnaire should receive their checks in the mail within the next week or so. For additional information on the Lost Wages program, please visit https://labor.vermont.gov/unemployment-insurance/lost-wage-assistance-program

If you experience any issues with your Unemployment Claim, please reach out to hr@jaypeakresort.com for assistance. We are able to assist you in researching any hang ups with your claim, but please note that all determinations for eligibility are made through the DOL and we have no recourse if you are found to be ineligible.
