FAMILY LEAVE
As part of our mission to continuously improve employee programming and benefits, we’re announcing enhanced maternity and parental leave policies that will expand current benefits and better support young families.
With the recent change for benefit eligibility (reducing the burden from 2080hrs to 1560hrs to test into full benefits), more of our Jay Peak team will more easily qualify for all benefits, including these improved Maternity and Parental leave policies.
HELPING OUR JAY FAMILY OF EMPLOYEES RAISE ‘EM JAY
These new benefits are retroactive to 10/01/2021. If you’ve welcomed a child since this date, the HR Team will be in touch to process your additional benefits. Approved paid parental leave may be taken at any time during the 12-month period immediately following the birth, adoption or placement of a child with the employee.
Below is a quick overview of the updated policies.

MATERNITY LEAVE
Previously, eligible benefitted employees who birthed a child would receive 60% of their income for 6-7 weeks of leave through their insurance benefits. Now, Jay Peak will cover the remaining 40% so your weekly paycheck will be made whole while you’re on maternity leave and new moms can focus more on recovering, bonding, and enjoying their time off rather than worrying about how to make ends meet.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Benefitted employees who have given birth to a child.
- Employees must be benefited at the time of birth as well as file and be approved for a disability claim with the company's insurance provider.
WHAT DO THEY RECEIVE?
Eligible employees receive 6-7 weeks of paid maternity leave per birth of a child. Employees will be compensated their full normal weekly wages through a combination of short-term disability insurance benefits and company paid leave.
PARENTAL LEAVE
We're also introducing new benefits for employees who have expanded their families, but may not eligible for paid Maternity Leave through insurance. For benefited employees welcoming a new child (dads and partners included) Jay Peak will now offer 1 week of paid leave that can be taken anytime within 12 months of welcoming your newborn, adopted child, or foster child.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Benefitted employees who are the biological parent of a birthed child, a spouse or domestic partner of an individual who has given birth to a child, or who have adopted a child or been placed with a foster child for long term care (17 years or younger)
- Employees must be benefited at the time of birth, adoption or placement of a foster child.
WHAT DO THEY RECEIVE?
Eligible employees receive 7 days (up to 8 hours each day) of paid parental leave per birth, adoption or placement of a child. Employees will be compensated at their current rate of pay through company payroll.
HOW DO I APPLY?
The employee will provide their supervisor and the HR department with notice of the request for leave at least 30 days prior to the proposed date of the leave (or if the leave was not foreseeable, as soon as possible). The employee must complete the necessary HR forms and provide all documentation as required by the HR department to substantiate the request.
