2025 Real To Steel - Where Grit Meets Gravity

Today's view from the Office.

Real to Steel: Where Grit Meets Gravity at Jay Peak's Ultimate Freeride Showdown

JAY PEAK, Vt. [Feb. 4, 2025]  – Known for some of the steepest and deepest terrain in the East, Jay Peak Resort is again blending freeride and freestyle into a one-of-a-kind competition. The 6th Annual Real to Steel Event invites skiers and snowboarders to showcase their skills on natural terrain and in the terrain park, all in one action-packed day on Saturday, March 8. Registration closes for the event Feb. 28. This year’s Real to Steel format includes one run through the “Real” course on The Office (Upper Can Am) and two runs through the “Steel” course, with terrain tailored by age group. Competitors ages 15 and up will take on the Rusch Terrain Park, while those 14 and under will showcase their park skills on the Rabbit Terrain Park. The best score from the “Steel” section will be combined with the score from the “Real” course to determine final standings.

Participants will be judged on line choice, fluidity, speed, trick difficulty, style, and that elusive “je ne sais quoi.”

“If navigating natural terrain and throwing tricks in the park sounds like your kind of challenge, this is the event for you,” said Ted Fleischer, Jay Peak’s event director, “assuming you’re comfortable with cliff drops and large park features.”
Competitors will have a shot at an impressive prize line up thanks to sponsors Never Summer, Rossignol and Vans. First, second and third place finishes in each of the two age categories will receive:

  • 1st Place: Never Summer snowboard or Rossignol skis, 2 one-day lift tickets, and 2 one-day Pump House Indoor Waterpark passes.
  • 2nd Place: 2 one-day lift tickets and 2 one-day Pump House Indoor Waterpark passes.
  • 3rd Place: 2 one-day Pump House Indoor Waterpark passes.
  • Bib Draw Raffle: All non-placing athletes will be entered to win prizes, including two Never Summer snowboards, two pairs of Rossignol skis, lift tickets, Pump House Indoor Waterpark passes, and more.

Registration is limited to the first 75 competitors and closes February 28th, 2025. The cost is $80 per competitor, with a $45 lift ticket option for those who need one. All participants are required to wear properly fitted helmets, with additional safety recommendations outlined in the waiver. Ages 14 and under competitors are prohibited from performing inverts and must provide original proof of date of birth. Competitors should register online at jaypeakresort.com/RealtoSteel.
This event isn’t for the faint of heart, but for those ready to test their mettle, the Real to Steel competition delivers a day of unmatched challenges and rewards.
