Traits of a Prideful Heart

A story about Hope on the Slopes

In 2015, we shared the story of Hope on the Slopes as a reflection of something deeper than a single ski day. The feature explored how a community event, rooted in remembrance and generosity, had grown into a meaningful part of Jay Peak’s winter calendar.

At its center was Buddy Loux and the legacy he left behind. What began as a way to honor his memory became an annual gathering that asked participants to dedicate their time and energy to something larger than themselves. Skiers and riders committed to eight hours on the hill, raising funds for the American Cancer Society while reinforcing the sense of connection that defines this place.

Traits of a Prideful Heart captured the spirit of that moment in time. It documented the early growth of the event, the personal stories behind the teams, and the values that shaped it: respect, generosity, humor, and a willingness to support one another.

Nearly a decade later, Hope on the Slopes continues, carried forward by the same community that built it. The details may shift from year to year, but the purpose remains steady. What you are about to read is a snapshot from 2015, a reminder of how this tradition took shape and why it continues to matter.
