Message to Canadians 2025

Recent Congressional testimony by General Manager for Jay Peak, a Vermont ski resort, underlines baseline support for Canadians as cross-border tensions threaten to impact bottom-lines.

Many Canadians Show Travel Resiliency

JAY PEAK, Vt. – [July 16, 2025] Jay Peak Resort President and General Manager Steve Wright recently testified before the U.S. Senate in Washington D.C., offering public support for Canadian travelers impacted by rising cross border tensions. Wright noted, “Jay Peak has long considered Canadians part of our extended family. While they are critical to our financial success, they are also a major part of who we are as a community and as a business.”

Wright’s testimony comes at a time when many Canadians are feeling the strain of shifting economic conditions and cross-border travel uncertainty. Despite currency fluctuations, travel costs and questions about the Canada and U.S. relationship, Jay Peak has always felt like familiar ground to many Canadians and a place that’s earned their continued loyalty over the years through consistency, engagement and attitude.

“We’ve chosen to not travel broadly in the U.S. because of any number of different factors,” said one longtime season passholder from Quebec. “But we still support Jay Peak because the resort’s leadership clearly thinks about Canadians as family and takes proactive steps to support us—like advocating for us in Washington. That matters to us.”

Another longtime season passholder, Gordon Baker from Ontario, began skiing at Jay Peak in the 1970s. Baker echoed similar sentiments, “Jay Peak is part of our family narrative and history and has been for a long time. Their policy about offering us at-par payment options on season passes and lift ticket is one thing, but more than that, they’ve always supported us with events like the Temps des Sucres last spring, poutine on the menu, and the Canadian flag flying next to the American flag outside their hockey rink. We’ve always felt welcome.”

“Canadians have long helped shape Jay Peak into the mountain and business that it is today,” explained Wright. “From the early days of Montreal ski clubs to today’s season passholders, homeowners and co-workers, they are a major part of who we are and who we’ll always be.”

One Canadian guest who purchased multiple Mission Affordable discounted 4-pack tickets during the 2024-2025 season put it simply, “The mountain is still amazing. The snow is great. The welcome is warm. And, Jay Peak is still worth the trip.”

Jay Peak Resort is a four-season destination in Northern Vermont, located near the Canadian border and about 60 miles north of Burlington. While best known for its snowfall and extensive winter terrain, Jay Peak comes to life in the warmer months with a wide range of summer activities and facilities. The resort features Vermont’s only indoor waterpark—complete with a retractable roof for all-weather access—alongside an 18-hole championship golf course, heated outdoor pool, multi-purpose turf fields, disc golf, and scenic Aerial Tram rides to the 4,000-foot summit. Summer also brings music festivals, events, and camps, all anchored by a growing lineup of indoor and outdoor recreation. Jay Peak still offers 385 acres of skiable terrain across nine lifts, including Vermont’s only Aerial Tram, and is known for its average 348 inches of natural annual snowfall, driven by the weather phenomenon locals call “The Jay Cloud.” Lodging options range from hotels to cottages, with multiple dining venues and seasonal programming designed for families, couples, and groups.
