The Whiteout Total Eclipse - Operational Details

The Path To Totality Ends With You Here, At Jay Peak

This once-in-a-lifetime experience comes with some unique planning challenges. We’ve done our best to forecast any pinch points and will continue refining plans as we get closer to the day. While we want everyone to have the best possible experience during The Whiteout, our primary concern is for employee and guest safety. Please read the following details carefully.

Operational Details - Monday, April 8th

Parking

This will be the biggest strain on the resort for the day. Only the main Tramside Entrance will be open so we can better monitor access to the resort. Our Parking Attendants will be parking cars as efficiently as possible but once we’re full, we’ll be limiting access to the resort. If you plan to be on-site, it will help us all if you carpool. Overnight camping, in tents, campers, or otherwise, is not permitted anywhere at the resort. Please note: you cannot park on Route 242 once our resort lots are full.

As always, parking at Jay Peak is FREE and first-come, first-served.

Lift Operations

We’ve had to adjust our usual operating hours for Monday, April 8th so no one is on the mountain during totality. Knowing there’d be a break in the day, we plan to open early so you can get the most out of your ski/ride day.

  • 7:30a - All lifts open except the Tram.
  • 12:30p - Upper Mountain lifts close for the day.
  • 2:00p - Lower Mountain lifts close for the eclipse.
  • 4:00p - The Metro Quad (Tramside) and Taxi Quad (Stateside) re-open to facilitate movement between both base areas.
  • 5:30p - Metro and Taxi lifts close.

Events

Sunday, April 7th

  • 4:00p - 4:45p - The Science Behind the Eclipse with Meteorologist and Science Educator Chris Kudek. FREE at the Clips & Reels Recreation Center on Stateside. Limited seating; first-come, first-served.
  • 7:30p - Pink Talking Fish Live from the Foeger Ballroom. This event is SOLD OUT.

Monday, April 8th

  • 2:30p – 3:15p - FREE live music with Pink Talking Fish performing the Darkside of the Moon album leading up to totality. Alice’s Table Patio on Tramside.
  • 3:26p – 3:31p -  *ECLIPSE TOTALITY*
  • 3:45 – 4:30p - Pink Talking Fish plays a second set.

Resort Restaurants & Activities

All our restaurants, retail shops, and resort activities (including the Pump House Indoor Waterpark) will be open for the day.

Safety Notes

  • Uphill Travel is not recommended, and Ski Patrollers will be stationed at key points across the mountain to remind folks.
  • No shelter-in-place will be available at the summit or any of the lift unloads.
  • Tram rides are sold out.
  • Plan for full winter gear and good footwear (ideally with snow spikes) - temps can drop as much as 15 degrees during totality and surfaces may flash freeze.
  • Viewing glasses will be available for sale at all resort retail outlets. Limited quantities available.
    • Tramside Base — Provisions General Store and The Mountain Shop
    • Stateside Base — The Gear Shop
